Transferring files from your device into a DaDesktop machine
One highly requested addition is the capability to move files directly from a trainer's personal laptop or desktop into a DaDesktop machine. These could be presentations, installation ISOs for use in a nested virtualisation setup for running multiple servers and desktops, or simply general files required by the training software.
Our team has introduced a straightforward file transfer feature in the most recent Windows 10 and many Linux templates. You can now just drag and drop files from the host machine – that is, your own laptop or desktop – straight into the DaDesktop environment.
For now, the transfer handles only one file at a time, but if you need to copy multiple files, you can zip them into an archive and drag that across. Files are sent in chunks so that even large ones move efficiently, and the process works best over a fast fibre internet connection. Any folders inside an archive, like a zip file, are kept intact.
On Linux templates, we haven't yet added a desktop shortcut to the Uploads folder like the one on Windows. Instead, your transferred files are found here:-
/home/student/uploads-to-dadesktop
In short:-
