Possible Issues You May Encounter
A handful of applications might need minor adjustments to function properly alongside DaDesktop.
Challenges when cloning a Fresh Start machine and how to resolve them
The vast majority of applications behave completely normally after being set up on a Fresh Start machine with DaDesktop (DD). However, a couple of apps behave unexpectedly because of the cloning process, and they need some additional configuration to work properly.
- Oracle Database Server - You'll need to switch the hostname from the duplicate to the local loopback address, 127.0.0.1
- Hyper-V server - Hyper-V runs into issues with duplicate MAC addresses if the External switch is enabled after cloning from the FreshStart machine.
- Google Chrome - Chrome might fail to launch properly on cloned machines because its profile is tied to the Fresh Start machine, especially if the Fresh Start machine wasn't fully shut down during the cloning process.
- WSL - Windows System for Linux - Our testing revealed that DaDesktop machines with WSL installed aren't portable—if you move a DaDesktop machine that includes WSL to a different DD server, it won't boot properly. The exact cause is unclear, but we suspect Windows ties itself to specific hardware, so relocating it to another server triggers a problem. Since WSL is seldom used for training (Linux is typically run directly), this issue hasn't been thoroughly explored yet.
- Issues where a trial software licence uses the MAC address to track the licence - Here, the trial license was linked to the MAC address, so after cloning, the license appeared to already be activated and consumed.

Applications requiring licenses might need to be installed after the Fresh Start clone is created.
Other problems you might encounter with DaDesktop
-
Very slow Virtualbox seen when using Hyper-V and VirtualBox (This happens outside of DaDesktop as well)
Problem: When VirtualBox runs very slowly on Windows machines, it can nearly make delivering a course impossible, but the fix is quite easy:
Solution 1: Remove Hyper-V Virtualization from Windows:https://www.wintips.org/fix-virtualbox-running-very-slow-in-windows-10-11/
Solution 2: Apply the Hyper-V Server workaround mentioned earlier; otherwise, duplicate MAC addresses will cause slow performance, boot issues, and other odd behavior.
- Unable to type certain characters ie Apostrophes / Quotation Marks, Inverted Commas, when typing into a DaDesktop machine.
