Building Standalone Desktops

  1. Click the 'Standalones' option in the top menu
  2. Click 'Create New Standalone' Desktop
  3. A dialogue box will appear, as shown below
Create New Standalone Desktop

Below you'll find an explanation of each field:

Choosing an OS Template to Clone

When picking an Operating System template, you have multiple choices. You can go with Windows or any of several Linux distributions, like Ubuntu, Debian, Almalinux, and others.

A pre-built template, usually marked with a version number like VXX (e.g., V51), can be used straight away.

Alternatively, you can now build fully up-to-date Linux templates with our 'Build New' feature. These templates rely on a different process: Linux sources are combined with a script that adds the essential DaDesktop tweaks. This keeps the template always current, secure, and simpler to roll out and maintain.

Once you've chosen the template you need, a pop-up like this will appear:

Click 'Start Building'

The standalone will then be constructed for you. Do note that the build might take more than 30 seconds, and if it seems like nothing is happening, just be patient – it may need a bit more time.

Now that the template is ready, you can adjust any settings you like, then click 'Save and Create Desktop'.

Your Standalone is now being created – this usually takes just a few moments, much quicker than building the template.

Your new Standalone is ready to go. In the example below, it's named 'julian-6iqm', but if I'd wanted, I could have assigned a more descriptive label.
