DaDesktop

Connecting via SSH

SSH AccessTo boost convenience, people frequently ask for SSH access to DaDesktop machines so that learners and instructors can reach their Desktops more easily from a personal laptop or desktop. It makes sense—many prefer typing commands in their own local terminal rather than inside a terminal window on a remote Desktop.

Although it's technically possible, we don't permit SSH access in this context, as doing so would unnecessarily expose the DaDesktop course machines to real security risks.

A drag-and-drop file transfer feature has been rolled out so that files can be effortlessly moved from your own device into the DaDesktop environment. Many of those SSH access requests came from a time when there wasn't a simple way to transfer files, but now that this capability is in place, DaDesktop becomes even more natural to use.

It's worth highlighting that full QEMU Spice Desktop support is now available on both Windows and Linux OS templates. This makes it far easier than before to copy a command from your local machine and paste it straight into the DaDesktop machine—even when you're working on a Mac or using non-English character sets.

On DDOP - DaDesktop on Premise servers, SSH access is allowed if needed.
